Deleting your data

You can remove your records at any time, and you can close your account entirely, both from inside the app. Neither needs a word from us.

1. Two different things

Most people asking about this want one of two things, and they are not the same.

Clear your records, keep your account

You can do this yourself, immediately, without contacting anyone. It removes every entry and category and restores the standard categories, leaving an empty account you can carry on using.

1. In the app, open More › My account. On the web, open Account.
2. Scroll to Danger zone and choose Reset all my data.
3. Enter your password, then the 6-digit code we email you.

Immediately afterwards we email you a complete copy of everything as it was before the reset, so a mistake is recoverable. Keep that email if you might want the data back.

Close the account altogether

You can do this yourself, in the app or on the web. You do not need to contact us.

1. In the app, open More › My account. On the web, open Account.
2. Scroll to Danger zone and choose Delete my account.
3. Enter your password, then the 6-digit code we email you.

The moment you confirm, the account closes and every device you are signed in on is signed out. We email you a complete copy of your records at the same time.

You then have 30 days to change your mind. Signing in with your usual email address and password during those 30 days cancels the closure and puts everything back exactly as it was. There is nothing to ask us for and nothing is lost.

After 30 days an automatic job deletes the account and every record in it, permanently. At that point we cannot recover it, so take a copy if you want one: My account › Download my data, or Email my data to me.

2. What is deleted, and when

Immediately, when you confirm

Every device you are signed in on is signed out, and the tokens that kept them signed in are destroyed. The account stops working. Signing in again does one thing only, and that is cancel the closure.

After 30 days, permanently

• Your income and expense entries
• Your categories, including any you created
• Your name, email address, and any address, Eircode, PPSN or mobile number you added
• Your password and any two-factor authentication settings
• Your activity log
• Any notification tokens for your devices

3. What is kept, and for how long

For the first 30 days after you close the account, all of it is still there - that is what makes changing your mind possible. Afterwards a small amount of information outlives the account. All of that is either required of us or exists to protect other users.

• Automated backups - up to 30 days. The service takes nightly backups so it can be restored after a failure. Your data remains inside those until they age out, at which point it is gone. We do not remove individual records from historic backups, because that would corrupt the backup for everyone else in it.
• Email delivery records - up to 30 days. Our email provider logs messages sent, so we can tell whether a verification code was delivered.
• Web server logs - up to 14 days. These contain IP addresses and are kept for security and for diagnosing faults.
• Records we are legally required to keep. If you have ever paid us, invoicing records are retained for the period Irish tax law requires. This does not apply to accounts that have never been billed.

None of it is used for any other purpose, and none of it is sold or shared.

4. If you cannot sign in

Closing the account needs your password, so if you have lost access, try Forgot password first - that puts you back in and lets you do it yourself.

If that is not possible, email hello@spsv.io from the address on the account and say so. We will verify it is yours before acting, which protects you: otherwise anyone who knew your email address could have your records deleted.
